About

See Me Strong is a youth-led organization dedicated to empowering girls and young women — the group most impacted by invisible autoimmune conditions — while also welcoming and supporting all youth affected by them. What began as one girl's fight to be seen has now become a growing movement. Here at SMS, we challenge the silence by educating, expanding access to care, providing opportunity, and amplifying voices too often overlooked—not because the pain is less real, but because it’s less visible.

Through bold, creative advocacy, we’re closing the gap between invisible illness and visible impact—because no one should have to fight to be seen.

Our Mission

Elevate visibility, access, and opportunity for youth, focusing on girls and young women with invisible autoimmune conditions through action and tangible support.

What is an "Autoimmune condition?"

hyperthyroidism.jpeg

The National Cancer Institute defines it as "a condition in which the body's immune system mistakes its own healthy tissues as foreign and attacks them."

Autoimmune conditions can affect a variety of different body parts, like the thyroid, skin, joints, or nervous system. Most are chronic, meaning they are long-lasting and often incurable, but they can be managed with support, treatment, and community.

Unlike other illnesses, autoimmune conditions often come with invisible, everyday-like symptoms such as fatigue, pain, and skin problems, making them easy to overlook by others, but profoundly real to those living with them.

Examples include but are not limited to: Graves' Disease, Lupus (SLE), Type 1 Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Psoriasis, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), and Alopecia Areata
